In this issue

  • Our social  programme

  • Recommended trades people directory continues to grow

An event or two for all seasons
It was great to see so many people at the Spring wine and cheese party kindly hosted by Buck and Kath White. We’d now like to tell you what else we’ve lined up for the social calendar this year.

Residents tell us they enjoy getting together and having the opportunity to get to know their neighbours a lot more.

THIS SUMMER, we are grateful to David and Pat Proctor who will be giving over their garden to the social committee for the day as it stages its Garden Party on Sunday 27 July.

SUMMER also sees us putting on our boots for the popular Knaresborough Walk on Saturday 16 August.

Our record turnout for this has been 12 and we want to boost the numbers this time because it’s such good fun. We’ll set off from the village green at 10am.

AUTUMN sees us building on the success of the inaugural history evening which saw all seats taken at the Tiger Inn, last year. This year’s event picks up from where that talk left off and is being held at the same venue on Tuesday 28 October.

WINTER: we round off the year on Sunday 14 December  in Yuletide spirit with our Christmas carol singing and a mince pie at the home of Caroline and Darren Greenhalgh.

Flyers for each of these events will be dropping through letter boxes nearer the time with further details.

New arrivals
A warm welcome to the new arrivals in our village since last year’s newsletter. We hope you enjoy life here and we’d love to see you at any of  our social gatherings. They’re a great way to get to know your neighbours in a friendly and informal environment.

Didn’t we do well!
Did you know that our Christmas carol fund-raising dates back to 1988. Over the years, we’ve collected an
estimated £7,000.

Back then, it was organised by the Sharpe family when, after singing throughout the village, the mince pies and drinks were served and an auction was held at the Old School House. Since 2001, the singing socials have been held at various homes. Money raised has been donated to Martin House Children's Hospice in Wetherby.

I know someone  who can do that.
The recommended tradespeople directory has grown so much that it now resides on the village website www.flaxbyvillage.blogspot.com and is proving invaluable for residents finding services ranging from aerial fitting to roof repairs. You can recommend anyone who’s done a good job.

Contact  Buck White or email us via the website.

New committee members wanted
We’d like to boost our six-strong committee to eight to bring some added inspiration and help us plan and stage our events. Please get in touch with a committee member if you’d like to get involved. Contact details can be found at the end of this newsletter.

Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood Watch is a long established voluntary organisation where neighbours get together to reduce crime and make their area a safer and better place to live, work and play.

Effective schemes work in partnership with police and other agencies. Sharing information about crime, bogus callers, anti-social behaviour or vandalism and details on personal and property security and local initiatives help members take precautions.

Watch representatives for Flaxby are:
Buck White (860353) responsible for: York Road from Station  House up to  Herons Keep, and from South Edge up to Malham (19 in all)

Trevor Cook (869538) responsible for: The Grange, plus numbers 1 - 9 The  Grange (10 in all)
Tony Nicholson (966815) responsible for: Shortsill Lane from 3 to 10 inclusive plus Hillside Cottage, Lilliel Cottage, Rivendell and Coneyway. Woodmans Cottages 1 & 2 (facing the green) and Flaxby Grange Cottage (14)

When the old school room is occupied, it will be added to this patch.

Residents are urged to give patch reps their email addresses so that information such as police notices can be passed on.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to your patch rep, and to the police as appropriate. The number for non-urgent calls is 101, and for urgent calls 999.
