Results of the Harrogate and Knaresborough Congestion Survey conducted by NYCC and HBC were published recently.
Two principal options were offered, the first being a bypass or 'relief ' road between Harrogate and Knaresborough, the second being a raft of measures designed to reduce traffic such as promoting cycling and walking, park and rides, car sharing and others.
Albeit that the latter option could only promise to relieve traffic for one year, the proposed relief road was outvoted by a substantial majority. So it would seem that local people do not like the current levels of traffic congestion but are not prepared to have a relief road. This is the only option that would address the need into the future. The prospect is of increasing levels of congestion in our towns with no long term plan to address the problem.
